PCOS and pregnancy

I was diagnosed with pcos last month after having it for who knows how long. I want to lose weight but we also want to start trying for a baby because we don’t know how long it might take. We aren’t looking to necessarily jump right to clomid. Has anyone had success with losing weight and getting pregnant with metformin? Also how are the side effects of metformin because I’ve heard it can be miserable! Thanks!
