Can gender scans be wrong?

I have been talking to a few ladies whilst waiting for my scan and one of them said last year she was told she was having a boy at 18 & 20 weeks.... well she birthed a baby girl!!! I mean how can they get that wrong? A little winky is soo obvious. In the uk we have great ultrasound equipment as well. I just really don't get this! How common is this in the uk?

It's rare,but yes can happen anywhere in the world,no matter the equipment! We've had a lot of years in uk, where they wasn't telling parents what they were having anyway.

My cousin was told her baby was going to be a girl. So she saved everything from her daughter and was set to go. Baby is born and it was a boy, so she had nothing for him.

Yes! They thought my sister was having a girl. Had a girlfriend baby shower and everything in pink! When he came out, the doctors was like “oh there’s a penis, it’s a boy!” 😭😂😂 luckily my sister was able to return most things and the things she kept, she eventually had a girl 9 years later so I guess it worked out 🤷‍♀️😂

When my mom was pregnant with me they couldn't get a clear picture because I wouldn't open my legs but the doc thought he saw a "penis". Well shocker I am a girl 🤣. 27 years later and I still get told that story.

I’m not in the UK, but my scan at 18 weeks said boy and at 20 weeks she was definitely a girl. Mistakes happen. It doesn’t usually have to do with the equipment but more so the position of the baby.

Depends on the baby, the angles, the ultrasound technician and where you go!
A lot of the time you hear about people’s moms getting scans wrong because they simply weren’t as good of quality as they are now.
Some babies do develop faster or slower, so girl parts can look swollen and boy parts can be underdeveloped.
I was told by 19-20 weeks an ultrasound is 99% accurate.
We were told girl at 19 weeks and she was very clearly a girl!
If you have your doubts, a blood test is the most accurate way to find out the gender!
