Impossible Toddler
First of all, let me just say that I absolutely adore my little man and cannot believe he's going to be 3 in ONE MONTH ðŸ˜
In the mornings he's happy and refreshed. He gets dressed and ready for the day and we eat breakfast together and cuddle while watching about 20 minutes of TV and then we play with toys for a bit and then get ready and leave for daycare.
But! He has been an absolute nightmare when we get him home from daycare.
He refuses to eat dinner unless it's mac and cheese or chicken nuggets (some days it is). We give him a couple of things we know he'll eat and whatever my husband and I are having for dinner. He might take a couple of bites of one of the things and then say he's done.
Between after dinner and bedtime, there are so many tantrums and a bunch of crying. "I don't want that." "I want something else." "Not like this, like this." And he changes his mind a thousand times on each little thing. We know it helps get him to do something if we give him choices. But he'll pick one thing and then change his mind and get upset. It's so frustrating, but I know it's a phase. If he doesn't get exactly what he wants, right away, it's a breakdown.
We try to stay calm and not give in to all the whining and crying, but it's tough.
It doesn't help that we have a 7 week old. And I don't think he's jealous of the baby, because he loves his baby brother so much and we make sure to pay lots of attention to him while he's home.
He fights bedtime so hard right now, but he's so tired that once he gets into bed, he pretty much falls asleep in 5 minutes.
