Born 7/20 and NICU baby πŸ’™ (long!)

I went in on 7/19 got an NST, and his heart rate was really low, eventually it went up to 120s, but his usual was high 130s/140s. My dr gave me the option to stay, and I did because I was scared his HR was gonna drop again, and I would be at home & not know.

For about 3-4 weeks now, I had been contracting regularly, but not dilating. Same for that night. Since I was a scheduled c section for Friday (23rd), I got betamethasone during my NST.

During the afternoon I was NPO in case I made cervical change and had to go in to deliver. My DR decided to give me my second dose of steroids 12 hrs later instead of 24.

I was fine during the night, no contractions, baby HR was 120s/130s (his new regular).

Come 7 am, I was contracting every 2-3 minutes and so intensly I was crying so much. However, I made no cervical change, and I just rode it out, and eventually they calmed down. I was given terbutaline, to try and space my contractions and have them be less painful. It only worked for like 45 minutes, because they became just as painful after, and I was still getting them every 4-5 minutes. At around 3 I was given morphine & procardia to ease the pain and again space them out. Well, it helped with the pain, but i was still contracting every 4-5 minutes.

My dr was so confident I wasn't going to deliver because I wasn't feeling them as much and I wasn't dilating.

Eventually she said to start eating, and i said no because I my contractions started to get painful again... and yep, I finally changed to 1 cm! C section time!!

C section went really well! And baby boy was born at 8:11 PM! Weighing in at a hefty 10 pounds 6 oz and measuring 23.5 in long!! Everyone in the room was so shocked! And it turned out to be the biggest baby my dr delivered via c section!

Unfortunately, his sugars were always very low and he had to go to the NICU the next afternoon.

He's currently still in there, and we hope he gets to come home very soon. It's been so incredibly difficult for my husband and I. I'm a hot mess, and I feel so disconnected from everything and everyone. My daughter who is 17 months has no idea what's going on and I just get so emotional over everything. I know that once he's home with us, I'll feel so much better.

He's also under the Bili lights, and getting calcium, and of course the dextrose. But he's passed all his blood sugars since being weened off the dextrose! We hope he gets discharged later today. πŸ™

Here's my chunky boy!
