Don’t want his sisters as bridesmaids?

Question

We just got engaged yesterday but have been talking about our wedding for a while. I already wanted my best friend as my maid of honor and I have 3 sisters of my own that will also be bridesmaids. Originally I also planned to have his 2 sisters be bridesmaids. I already thought it was too many since our wedding is going to be small, I don’t want half the guests to be in the bridal party. Recently, his sisters have been horrible to us and only nice when it benefits them. One of them can’t enjoy herself unless the day is about her so I told him I was just going to have my sisters and friend in the bridal party. He didn’t care he just wants to marry me and he knows how his sisters can be. I still feel bad for taking them out completely. Are there any other roles I could put them in to still have them be a part of the wedding? They are 28 and 18, so not flower girl.

I would skip roles for them entirely. It is just more of a headache for you. Your wedding is about you and your partner. You don't need everyone to have a "job" at your wedding. They can come and enjoy it as guests.

Didn’t have my SILs as Bridesmaids because the the same thing. Our wedding party was already huge and it was hard to manage all those people. They helped my maid of honor plan my bachelorette party and they were both there. They also came and had make up and hair done with us on the morning of. My nephews were in the wedding so they were both busy anyways Neither of them were bothered or upset, they knew it wasn’t because I didn’t like them. My sister in laws are much more laid back than most though.

Not sure but I will say my sis n law had allllll her siblings and sis n law and none of my brothers siblings participated in the wedding and it did leave a bitter taste in put families mouth. I still think about it 10 years latter. But we werent rude to her so idk. I do think they should be honored if possible as the sisters but not exactly sure how.

Ushers in the back handing out programs tell people where to sit or take coats or walk with other members of family as ushers. Walk in with grand parents etc. It’s your wedding and your choice you don’t have to have them involved at all. If they want to be nasty you don’t even have to invite them yet alone be a part of the wedding. They can be guests. Or not there at all.

I had my SIL in my wedding, but at first it was for my husband more than anything. We weren't close and she hated me in the beginning... I just hoped we would start to get along by the time the wedding came and it actually helped make our relationship okay.

I’m not having my bf siblings in our wedding! 1 of them and his mother are not invited to come to the wedding! We have my 2 out of my 6 brothers being body guards. They threatened to kill me of we get married! 🤷🏼‍♀️it’s your wedding if husband and you talk about it then that’s all that matters. Who cares what they think! I’m probably the odd one out on this!

When u have your own sisters, it's understandable if they're not in it if you don't want to add them. It's your wedding not theirs so don't worry about anyone else feelings but yours especially if your husband has your back.

I didn’t have my husband’s sister in the wedding party or give her any role (we just didn’t/don’t have a very close relationship). Agree with others who said you could have them be ushers, or do readings during the ceremony, but please don’t feel obligated to do so!

Are you catholic? If so maybe some church readings. Bringing up the body of christ. They can be greeters welcoming guest when they come in. You can put them in charge of decorations or set up.
