Induction?

I’m curious if there is any real benefits of being induced? I am a ftm so I have no clue what to expect with labor to begin with. My doctor brought up the idea of being induced at 39 weeks, I’m starting to feel my body drag and be exhausted. I just would feel selfish making my baby come when she isn’t ready yet… we would be being induced here within a week or so if I decide to go along with an induction… any advice is appreciated.

I would not recommend induction unless medically necessary. My daughter was born via an induction due to a heart defect and gestational diabetes (9 days early). It was awful and I’m so thankful my son will not be induced.

Studies have shown that inducing at 39 weeks can reduce the risk of c-section and other complications that occur late in pregnancy. A lot of the benefit is personal preference though. I had to have a medical induction with my first and my cervix was extremely cooperative and I had a great experience. That, combined with the fact that my only babysitter is 4 hours away makes me really want the convenience of a planned birth. I have a strong emotional connection to induction too. We only have a set number of days with our children in this life and time is the only thing we can't buy. I want that extra week or two with my baby and I would do anything to get it. (As long as we are both healthy and safe)

There’s articles you can find that point out induction after 39 weeks is just as safe, if not safer, than going into labor a naturally. 
Of course, this is all based on averages. Some people’s bodies do not take well to Cervidil or Pitocin and the induction has to stop or it turns into a C-section. 
I have been induced twice. The first time, my water broke and I wasn’t dilated or contracting. I wasn’t even progressing with dilation. The second time, pretty much the same except my water had been leaking for two days already. Same issue. No dilation and hardly any contractions. Nothing regular. 
There’s always a risk for infection when your water breaks or is leaking so induction is usually the way to go. 
If you can hold out, I’d wait to see if your body can start labor naturally. If not, then I don’t see an issue with induction. Both my experiences were fine. 🤷🏻‍♀️
