How do you wash your 1 year old’s hair?!

I’m posting anonymous because I feel so stupid I can’t do such a simple task. I’ve always gotten in the tub with my son to bathe him because it was just easier for me. I would normally cradle him and wash his hair while he nursed. But lately he’s been refusing, and would much rather play with his toys and try to climb out of the tub. Which I guess is to be expected. But how in the world do you wash your kids hair?! I debated whether or not to get that little cap thing that keeps water out of their face but he HATES hats. So that would absolutely not work. Any tips/tricks are more than welcomed!!

So the easiest way and the way I prefer is to lie baby on his back with one hand under his head and use the other to rub/rinse in the tub. My 4.5 y/o does it this way, my 13 m/o used to before he decided that was too scary, and my 3 y/o has never let me do it. 
Then I used to rinse with one hand on their hairline to pull back their head and block the water from their eyes while I rinse with the other hand. My 3 y/o has autism and doesn't understand "head back" any more than the 13 m/o. So like this:

My 3 y/o will occasionally jerk his head down quickly and still get a face full of water but he thinks it is funny, so no harm no foul. My 13 m/o does NOT think it is funny and has recently started fighting this position (grumpy and cutting 4 molars.) 
So now I use one hand to grip his chin and tilt his head back while I rinse with the other one. I do one rinse, let him rest a second, then do another and repeat as many times as it takes to get all the shampoo and then conditioner out of his hair. He has thick hair that is sometimes wavy and sometimes curly so it takes a few rinses. I make sure to rest between rinses so his neck doesn't get sore and also so he doesn't get annoyed with me holding his head. So like this (but ignore his face because he is confused why I am doing that in his highchair 😅):

So grip like that but tilt the head back. I obviously can't do it in the picture because he is in his highchair and can't tilt his head back. 
And don't worry about it being a "stupid" question. It isn't a stupid question at all. This is my third kid. My others are 4.5 and 3 so I've been washing kids' hair every other night for 4.5 years and I STILL find it to be one of the more annoying/difficult parts of baby care.

I wet his hair with the showerhead while he's playing, rub shampoo in his hair until all foamy and soaped, ronse it out with the showerhead.
He doesn't mind water or shampoo in his face 🤷🏻‍♀️

I just rub her shampoo in her hair with my hands, then rinse it out with this little bucket of water, nothing special haha.  I do this while she is sitting playing with her toys

I hold her chin up while telling her to look at the ceiling and I pour water on her head. 8/10 she fights it and gets water in her face, so I have a dry rag in hand to wipe off her face. She doesn’t mind :)

I use a little cup to chuck water over her head and then shampoo, a few more cups of water to rinse...I use a cloth or my hand to wipe excess water off her face at the end but she’s not really fussed, I think the more you worry about the water going in their faces the longer it takes and ultimately the more bothered they are, my daughter never complains.

I “try” to put my hand in his forehead to prevent the water in his face- but he could care less so sometimes I’m just dumping big cups of water on his head. If it gets in his face I just wipe it with my hand and he’s fine. He loves water though.
