Moms how did you get your 4 year olds to learn?

I’m trying to get my four year old son ready for pre-school. He refuses to learn his ABC’s and numbers it’s frustrating. Please help any tips?? The tv isn’t on while I’m teaching him.

I started when mine were way younger so then they had a pretty easy time with learning time and work books! For starting now I’d say do lots of interactive things and hands on stuff! Like draw in the sand, paint, things they like doing but make it about learning!

Use something that interests him (like cars or food or crayons or counting steps as you walk up them, count them together) reading lots of books (finding things he can point to while you count or say letters) (I shoot for at least 4-5 books a day), pointing out words, numbers and letters you see every you go, flashcards. It doesn't have to be a traditional sit down school room type learning, make learning fun by using his existing interests, things he can physically touch or move his body to. Looking at learning as fun and not a task makes all the difference!

Those are kindergarten standards, he can learn that when he gets to kindergarten. There shouldn’t be any pressure for him to learn any of that at this time. If he was showing an eagerness or readiness to learn, that would be different.  
If you want to focus on getting ready for school, work on independence skills, fine and gross motor skills, and general executive function skills like organization.

My two year old has nothing but educational apps on her tablet and they teach while the kids play games so maybe you can try that she knows all her abc’s and can count pretty high and knows all her colors also the dollar stores sell some neat learning cards as well to practice too I hope this helps don’t get frustrated either if they learn different than others every kid learn at their own pace

We don’t do a lot of structured learning time - we just mix it in. So in the car if you see some birds you can say “look - there’s 1, 2, 3 birds!” Or at the grocery store, “can you help me get two boxes of cereal?”
We have the school bus magnetic letters - it’s either a vtech or leapfrog brand and it sings and we can put different letters in. Both of my kids love that thing so much that the entire side of the fridge is filled with all the different versions and they play it while I make dinner.
It’s got to be fun and not seem like work for them. 
If you are okay with electronics - Number blocks is a show that is really great. My daughter is 4.5 and is doing basic addition after watching those shows!
