Crying after daycare

My son is 10.5 months old. He recently started daycare and will cry when I leave him which seems normal. He has been breastfed and we only started dropping feeds right before daycare so I expected it to be tough. The problem is he tends to cry when I collect him. Sometimes he'll have been woken up when I arrive then cries but a few times he has been awake and cried really hard with some arching of his back. His diaper will normally be changed at least half an hour prior. He seems to eat well there from the report that I receive on the nursery app. Is it common for children to cry afterwards?
