Rice cereal!?

It seems like my baby is always hungry and is eating 6oz every 3 hours. He is 5 weeks old. I was thinking about giving a little cereal before bed. When did you start your little one on cereal?

No. Absolutely do not do that. Your baby shouldn’t have anything but breastmilk or formula until at least 4 months. They’re little body can’t handle anything else. Additionally, it’s a choking hazard at that age. Extremely dangerous.

Rice cereal is not necessary and even if you choose to use it when you begin solids, it shouldn’t be given until 4-6 months of age when baby is showing signs of readiness.  Talk to a paediatrician as starting rice cereal this early could be dangerous for your baby.

My pediatrician told me to give mine 1/2 teaspoon of baby oatmeal with the breast milk since my 1 month old deals with reflux. It has helped and he sleeps longer during the night. We only give him the oatmeal once though which is the night time feeding, other than that he is on breast milk. Hope this helps!

Is your baby gaining weight and having enough wet diapers? If the pediatrician isn’t concerned then your baby is just a happy eater. Rice cereal is a old school method and strongly not recommended anymore. Even when you start solids most people don’t use rice cereal, they use oat or barleys.
