Does your parent try to get involved in your relationship even as an adult ?
I am in my mid 30’s. I have 2 kids. I’ve been married once before and divorced. My parents are given unsolicited advices and opinions on my current partner. They absolutely loved my ex-husband and he’s an amazing person but he was not mature and ready for manhood. Didn’t discover that until after the wedding. Bait and switch. However, now I’m dating a man that’s a provider and they’re not satisfied because I spend my free time with him when I do not have the kids. I’m the only child so I figured this may play a major part. I literally had to tell my dad today “I’m an adult and I am a grown woman with 2 kids”. He then said so your parents opinion doesn’t matter and I said “nope”. I told my dad he married a woman I wasn’t fond of and she was horrible to your grandchild so I don’t think he should give any opinion honestly. My mom has recently accepted that if she wants to have a conversation with me then to not discuss my relationship/dating life. She has respected it so far. After I said what I said to my father, he had an attitude and I ended the conversation and told him I’ll talk to him some other time.
Both of my parents after they divorced when I was a teenager have had some partners/spouses that I was not fond of but I didn’t always express it every interaction I had with them.
