Do you really put baby down "drowsy but awake"?

Question

I breastfeed my 12 week old before bed and he usually falls asleep when he's done eating or while I'm holding him upright after he eats. I really love him falling asleep in my arms as I don't hold him for naps anymore (he naps in his crib) but I know he needs to learn to put himself to sleep eventually.

I hit yes but meant to hit sometimes. Sometimes I put her down drowsy and other times we snuggle and rock together for a little bit then she goes to bed. She sleeps fine either way. I did this with my first two kids and doing the same with her. They are only this small once and it goes by fast. I love them this age, so snuggly and sweet. 🥰

My baby will literally have a meltdown if I put him in his bed drowsy / light sleep / awake, unless he has his dummy but he rarely takes it anymore. I end up holding him or nursing him to sleep and put him in his crib when he’s fast asleep 🤦🏻‍♀️

I nurse right before bedtime and if she starts dozing off I stop breastfeeding. It helps her sleep longer if she falls asleep on her own and not while breastfeeding. I do miss the cuddly nursing naps though

I had the same, but now we follow the approach where feeding is not a part of nighttime routine. We feed him downstairs, with lights on and after burps we go to his room to get him ready to sleep. He knows whats coming, so after his lullaby he is still awake but very calm. He falls asleep in 5min usually.

I nurse her until shes in a light sleep then put her in her crib. Shes 13 weeks and weve been doing that system for quite awhile. Sometimes she will fuss for a few minutes (not cry) and will put herself back to sleep

I started putting him down drowsy after cuddling (really almost asleep) only about 10 days ago (he’s 16 weeks) and it has made a huge difference! He went from sleeping 3 hours at a time to reaching peaks of 7 or 8 hours! I still breastfeed as part of my routine, cuddle him a bit til he’s almost dropping off, then I say “it’s time to go to sleep”, pop him in the crib say goodnight. Mummy loves you” kiss, then step back. Sometimes it takes him a couple of minutes, other times he’s out like a light lol. Think the only reason all this has started working though is because he’s recently discovered his thumb (won’t take pacifier). When I tried on the past he would get really upset as soon as I put him down. He’s obviously developed enough now to learn to sleep

I fed my baby laying down while nursing. She sleeps in our bed. We are trying to transition her to her crib but she’s very attached. Has been since day 1, and I don’t feel a rush to break the attachment. 
My second was very attached, he slept in his bed usually first half of the night and then in ours. Put him in his room at 9 months and he is a wonderful sleeper. He got up every 3 hours, sometimes a 5 hour stretch until we weaned from breast. Then he started sleeping all night.  
With my first I felt super pressured to have him sleep in his own bed, all the time. So neither of us got enough sleep. But for him, I laid him down when fully asleep and he’d wake once through the night for a bottle but he was formula fed.
