Kind of a stupid question lol (sorry)

Hi ladies I just started my first period not too long ago and was wondering if your period cycle is just the number of days inbetween your periods like the days inbetween but not counting the days you also bleed or is it the first day of your last period and all the other days leading up to the first day of your next period? Sorry if that’s confusing.
