To PGS test or not? 🤔

Hi everybody!

I am about to start my third round of <a href="https://glowing.com/glow-fertility-program">IVF</a>, I have had two previous with three transfers. None have stuck yet so my doctor has recommended Pgs testing, we are not sure what to do as we have only had a small number of embryos make it to day 5.

Just one the first time and three the second with assisted hatching & MACS.

This time we are doing a long protocol hopefully to get more good quality embryos and are trying to decide when Pgs testing is worth it or not - it’s expensive obviously but I am worried it will get my partners hopes up even more if he’s told the embryo is fine and it still doesn’t implant. He’s had a hard time with the failures already.

Any opinions would be appreciated, this will likely be our last attempt. I’m leaving towards any more than 3 and we will do testing.

Well Iv been reading up on PGS testing and I didn’t realize the stats on it, I read that it reduced the risk of miscarriage from 40% to 5% for women over 35 and a genetically normal tested embryo has a 60-70% chance of implanting.. leaving more towards testing if we have more than 1 embryo.

We had 4 blastocysts out of 10 fertilized eggs. We got them tested an only one was normal. This is disappointing but I understand the 3 of them would have never made it to the full term. 
I have my FET scheduled coming Wednesday., hoping it works.

First round we tested with only 2- and got 1 Normal 1 abnormal. At least it saved some heartache.

In my case I had 5 embryos and did test. But I think I would test with even just one. The testing is cheaper than a transfer (at least in my case) and would save you from going through the whole process with an abnormal embryo. To find it an embryo is abnormal is really hard, but I think it would be even more heartbreaking to go through a miscarriage or failed transfer because of an abnormal embryo. But that’s just how I think about it, do whatever feels right for you! Good luck to you!

If I was doing ivf, I would test them without a doubt. I know it costs more but I’ve had chemical losses and would do anything to prevent that

I don’t think I would test just 1 because I would probably transfer it no matter what but if it came to having 2 or 3 I would test, especially if I was thinking this would be my last try. If I didn’t test and it failed I would always wonder if it was my mistake for not picking the healthier embryo

I caught third round without testing on a double transfer for my daughter whose now a healthy happy 2 year old. They did a longer protocol with me too. Have faith hopefully this is lucky number 3 for you too x

I definitely think it’s reasonable to do testing if there are more than 3 embryos. I will say however that if they are tested and something is wrong you avoid implanting an embryo that’s likely not going to take anyways. I can totally relate to how hard this decision is. We had 6 losses via Iui before moving to IVF and ultimately for us the decision to test the embryos came as a result of not wanting to even get pregnant again if there was no chance. We personally couldn’t bear another loss, so did everything we could to make sure we eliminated as many variables.

We have been TTC#2 for almost 2 years now. 1 miscarriage, 2 medicated cycles, 3 rounds of IUI, one round of IVF with a fresh transfer of two embryos. We just started another round of stims last night. We will be doing PGT-A this time. We have known MFI (morphology and motility) though his SA has improved on antioxidants to almost normal range. The presumption is that since I am almost 39 I probably have a lot of abnormal eggs... at any rate, We've determined that we've got to get a better idea of what we're dealing with. Good luck to you!

In my last round we had nine blasts, so would be past your 3+ idea. We tested and zero were fit for transfer. So relieved not to have to go through more miscarriages. And the testing helped me understand the randomness of genetics in fertility, and accept the losses we have previously had.
