Cough & congestion

My son has a cough & congestion going on, he’s uncomfortable but otherwise still running around & fever free. What can I safely give him to relieve the pain from his cough & break up the congestion? Tried a spoonful of honey in his cup this morning & he hated it..so much that it’s now been an entire day of trying to convince him it’s not in his cup anymore lol. We have a humidifier, but other than trying to push fluids I’m just wondering if there’s anything else I can do to help him
