Can they check my bag legally? At work

Recently my work place have started checking bags before we leave for the night.  I work at a department store . They are random bag checks. I don’t have anything to hide but I don’t feel like it’s fair we have to have our bag checked like we are criminals . Legally are they allowed to do this?

Yes they are and they probably have a good reason to do it too, like if they believe someone is stealing or taking drugs

Typically, yes. If you don’t consent to bag checks, ask your boss to see the store policy that requires employees to have their bags checked. If it’s in the employee policy, then it’s absolutely legal and if you don’t want to do it, don’t bring a bag.

I work at CVS and they do have that policy though my personal store doesn't generally worry about it. Certain employees will have you double check their bags/receipts for them as they want to even avoid the step of ever being accused of that. Though even those employees normally only worry about their cvs plastic bags not their personal purses and what have you though the corporate policy does allow you to search all that too.
