Can you lift your toddler after giving birth?

Question

I have a nearly two year old daugther at and I am about to give birth to my 2nd baby soon. 
I got told from a lot of different people that I cannot lift my toddler for at least three months after giving birth. 
I am aiming for a natural birth, hoping everything will go well. 🙂

I was lifting my 2.5 year old (31lbs) the day after I gave birth when I came home from the hospital and got her out of her crib from her nap. I lifted her in and out of it everytime since then and never had an issue.

If that’s the case, I certainly didn’t follow that rule and I was perfectly fine. I had 2 vaginal deliveries. I drove to pick my toddler son up the day we were released from the hospital because I couldn’t wait to see him. I picked him up right away.

They told me nothing heavier than my baby for the first few days.  I came home and picked up my 25 lb 2 year old and gave him a big hug and kisses.

I just had my second a week ago and was told not to Overwork myself and to avoid lifting my son (he's 3 and a half). I had a vaginal birth with no stitches, I'm assuming they will probably give me the go ahead to lift him again after about 6 weeks.

If you have a c section I believe you have some lifting restrictions due to your stitches for a bit. If it’s natural you should be ok as long as you use good body mechanics and listen to your body. The risk is mainly to your pelvic floor with a vaginal birth

If you have a c section, you may not be able to lift your toddler for a period of time but that’s because you would be recovering from abdominal surgery
