Second+ time moms: will you be having a baby shower for new baby even if the baby is the same sex as your first baby?

We just did a mini family “party” yesterday to celebrate our new house and us finding out it’s a boy 🙂(our second boy, first will be 2 in December). We got a couple gifts but mostly it was a big family dinner and crab feast to have fun and enjoy the news! It was perfect.

Having a sprinkle. Lots of guests and food but no gifts just diapers and wipes if they would like to contribute. I didn’t get a baby shower with my first born because of covid and my second born will be the same gender. Since I have saved all the stuff from the first baby we really only Need diapers and wipes now

I had a shower for my first (a girl), I was planning to have a “sip and see” for my second baby (also a girl) but she was born in May 2020 when covid just started to be a huge problem so it never happened. Baby 3 (due March 2022) is a boy but I think we wont do anything still because we will still be cautious being around lots of people because of covid and we have moved so the same group of people we would have normally invited we aren’t living close to any more. I think every baby should be celebrated if possible but I’m more in favor of a sip and see after subsequent babies are born assuming the first baby got a big shower because it takes away from that assumption that a shower or sprinkle requires gifts and puts more focus on just welcoming baby. Just my preference and I don’t think people should judge either way!

Some of my friends want to throw me a diaper/wipes sprinkle party which is fine but I wouldn’t want a full baby shower again. I hate being the center of attention though lol

Yes only because for my first (6 years ago) I didn’t get a chance to have a baby shower due to circumstances. So my family is going above and beyond preparing every special announcement and celebration this time around for me.

My son (has been an only child) turns 13 next month so I literally have zero baby things. We’re having a girl too, first in my family in MANY years, so my family is throwing a shower to celebrate and help. If I was having a boy, I may be less inclined to have a shower since a lot of my family has had boys in the last several years, and I’d be happy to accept any/all hand-me-downs. But this is my parents second grand baby and first girl, they’ll hear nothing about not having a shower.

I’m not planning on having one but I know my husband’s family will want to have some kind of celebration. (We’re Mexican and love to celebrate things!) We’re having another girl but not revealing gender to our family until birth. If family wants to help, we’re thinking of setting up a diaper fund and having them contribute to that.
