Will he ever propose?

So back story; me and my Boyfriend have been together 2.5 years. I have a son from my previous relationship (we had been together off and on for 12 years) my boyfriend has is divorced with no children. He has always been jealous about my sons father, doesn’t like that we have to communicate always questioning me about him does not want him coming to our house to pick him up. I have also had jealousy issues and his ex wife (who did him VERY dirty) is still very close to his family. I don’t agree with it, as I don’t understand how his family is okay with her after what she had done to him. Recently he has shared with me that He has not proposed to me because he knows that me and my son need him and being here is what matters to him and is in no rush because with his previous marriage he felt forced or else he would lose her and reports it was a mistake marrying her. Though previously upon meeting him he told me he was still in love with her. I’m just confused I guess, he is ever going to propose? What does he mean that it just matters to him that he is here for us ?
