When can I ask for an epidural ?

About 1 hour ago I was dialated 4 and now I’m having contractions btw I’m being induced

There are plenty of recent, evidenced based research studies (of 15k+ women) that show that the best time to get an epidural is when mom asks for it regardless of dilation status. Decreasing maternal pain, stress, BP, etc when MOM feels like she needs it leads to overall better maternal and fetal outcomes. And they found the average extension of labor in the studies was about 40 mins for women who get an epidural earlier vs later or not at all, and there are NO increased risks of c section, so don’t let stalled labor scare you away.
Obviously you probably don’t want to read research right now but you can Google it if you want. Don’t look for boutique articles. The standard of care in major hospitals around the country (John Hopkins for example) is to give the epidural when mom asks for it.

I got admitted with spontaneous labor and they got the anesthesiologist in my room before i was even admitted. I was only at a 3 but had been having back to back contractions for hours at home

I think you can ask at anytime! I got one before my induction with my first so I was hardly dilated, with my 2nd I was about 6cm but should have got it sooner because by then my contractions were brutal!

You can ask as soon as youve had 2 IV bags of fluid. Youre getting induced, so there isnt a concern of it slowing your dilation.

Typically in “active” labour which is 4 cm. But if they’re running pitocin they should start it asap

I got one at 5cm, but thats when I also got to the hospital.
