What age can babies ususally be brought home?

I'm 33 weeks and wondering at what stage of pregnancy is ususally classed as safe or full term? I mean if I had my baby now I don't think I could take him home for example?!!

You can still have a full term baby and need NICU time. If you had your baby right now at 33 weeks no you would most likely not be bringing them home. I would be genuinely surprised if they allowed it before 36 weeks.

37 weeks is early term. 38 weeks+ is full term. Age of viability is typically 24 weeks so you’re well past that but if you had baby now they’d likely be kept in the nicu for a bit

I was told 37 weeks is considered “full term” at my office, but whether or not you can take a baby home yet is dictated by other factors usually. You can have a baby born at that time & everything is fine or there could be issues & they still end up in the NICU.

My doctor told me that 37 weeks and up is considered “term”. He said GENERALLY babies born during that time do not have major complications but you can never say for sure. Just like you can never say for sure a baby born later will be 100% okay. 
He said that when people go into labor at 37 weeks they don’t do anything to stop it.

Babies are considered full term at 37 weeks. But being full term doesn’t mean you’ll get to take baby home right away. Anything can happen during the birthing process or post delivery to affect that. The chances are significantly lower being full term, but they are always there.

My 33 weeker stayed 16 days.  My 35+5 stayed 3 days.  I have a friend who had a 37 weeker stay 11 days though because his lungs were still a bit immature.  My 37+4 went home at 24 hours old

Well for one of my kids I was having pregnancy complications on my own body, had amniocentesis at 37 weeks to see if we could safely induce and her lungs were not developed so we waited till I was 38 weeks. So I wouldn't want a baby any earlier then 38 weeks if possible. But I know some who have  had a baby at 37 weeks and baby was fine no nicu time.
