Could I have had my baby without being induced?

Question

Long story short my water had broken, 9 hours had gone by and no contractions at all. I was barely 2cm dilated. I was told I had to be induced (which I was) and that if baby didn't come in 24 hours I'd have to get a csection. Baby came at 23hrs. I thought you could wait naturally up to 48 hours?
Edit: I forgot to mention, I stayed home for 9 hours before going in because I realised my strep gbp came back positive. Thats the only reason I went in.

I think it depends on the doctor, but honestly this kind of stuff is why I don't trust doctors and only see midwives, there's so many doctors out there that only care about how much money they make and will say anything for you to have a c-section just for their convenience and pocketbook

Were you at the hospital for all of this? That’s also part of this equation. My labor started with my water breaking and the midwife kept encouraging me to stay home to let my cervix dilate naturally. Nobody’s gonna touch you or or set you up for a c-section if you’re not at the hospital, but they start a theoretical clock once you’re admitted. At the hospital you get cervical checks which do increase chance of infection. At home, without checks, I have read a woman can relax and progress naturally up to three days after broken waters. Perhaps because no doctor is being held responsible. There won’t be a definitive answer here, it’s all a risk assessment once you’re admitted which is why “have to” and “by x amount of time” is different for each specific scenario.

48 hours is totally fine, especially if you have no cervical checks. Each check increases your risk of infection significantly.

Its 48 hours but the hospitals try and scare u saying risk of infection after 24 hours . To me its because they make money off inducing. I was in labor for 24 hours after my water broke and they wanted to induce me the whole time saying i was dialating slowly even though my contractions were all 5 minutes apart or less. I endured it without inducing and baby is fine and healthy.

No I don’t think so. I’m pretty sure it’s 24 hours to get the baby out and then the risk of infection is much higher. The same thing happened to me My water broke and I was not dilated at all and they had to induce me.

Not completely sure but I’ve had 2 births where they told me they would wait 48 hours after my water broke before intervention. I had them in 2 different states. For example, for my 3rd birth, my water broke naturally and I didn’t start having contractions until over 24 hours later. I had my baby vaginally 45 hours after my water broke with no induction/intervention.

Depends on the center. Some do 24, some do 48.
