Catholic help needed

Hello, I need an answer from a Catholic person. So, I had an abortion at age 21 which I have already prayed to Jesus asking for forgiveness . It happened before I became a Christian and I am 24 now and became Christian 2 years ago. Anyway, I went to a Catholic Church recently and enjoyed the service, but is it true you cannot take communion, or do sacraments if you have had an abortion? Please let me know. Thank you

Catholic here :) although you prayed for forgiveness, you technically are still in a state of sin as you didn’t go to Confession and weren’t given a penance by a priest. Because of this, you can’t receive Communion at Sunday Mass. Go to Confession, receive penance, and poor your heart out to Jesus. The priest will absolve you of your sins and give you a penance. After doing the penance (usually saying a couple Hail Marys or Our Fathers) you are as white as snow. Then you can receive Communion ☺️ hope that helps! God bless and good luck

You won’t be excommunicated or anything for it; the priest will just have you say some prayers or something similar

The Catholic Church and it’s history is rooted in paganism. Understand that Christianity and Catholics practice different things! I don’t consider them in the same branch. If you are a Christian and you have been forgiven from sin. You can take communion! The Catholics are condemning you if you do not.

You’ll have to receive the sacrament of confession (sometimes also called penance or reconciliation) first. Ask a priest or see if there are times listed in your church bulletin/website. With advent coming up, there may be penance services at your church.

It’s only the priest. Priests have heard literally every sin in the book, and you can kneel behind a screen in most churches so he won’t see your face. Also, confessions are protected so he will never say anything he hears outside the confessional. Let him know it’s your first time, and he can walk you through what to do.

I’m very afraid of talking to the priest about this. I don’t want to even say it out loud . I have never done confession. Does only the priest hear it , or are others able to hear it too?

Another note. Catholics believe the Eucharist is literally the body and blood of Jesus, not just a symbol or a re-enactment of the Last Supper like a lot of Protestant churches. Just like you wouldn’t have someone famous over to your house without cleaning it up, you shouldn’t invite Jesus into your home (your body) without being in a state of grace. So it isn’t just abortion, it’s anything that distances you from God.
