Ptsd or simply nervous??

Question

I had my pap smear a week ago. And the gyno was in a rush and she hurt me with the speculum metal tool. I even got a bit of blood.. And abdominal cramps.
Now, it's been a week and I tried being intimate with my long term boyfriend and when he insert his finger down there my VAG started clenching on its own and it was so PAINFUL. How can I stop this? I never had problems before 😭😭

As someone with PTSD from being molested my entire life and kidnapped and beaten almost to death with the end of an axe stabbed in my back and have broken ribs and jaw multiple times from being in an abusive relationship. This really pissed me off. I don’t mean to be insensitive. I’m sorry you’re hurt and feel this way. But there is so much more going on in the world and many people having bad experiences with speculums to have PTSD the following week.

I had an experience similar to this and another bad experience from another OBGYN inserting an IUD. From those bad experiences I now clench my pelvic floor muscles. I go to a pelvic floor physical therapist. It has been TREMENDOUS help!!! I was having such painful sex i couldn’t go on.

It's anxiety. Start working on kegels. Basically what you're doing is clenching muscles in anticipation of pain which makes you tougher down there & can cause pain to happen. Kegels are a way for you to get better control of those muscles. Deep breathing exercises will help with the anxiety. I would look for a doctor who might be a little slower & listen to you about being anxious about another 1 after your experience. Just an fyi, though, it's not uncommon to bleed and have some discomfort from a pap smear. Not saying what happened was normal bc I wasn't there, but just wasn't you to be prepared with more knowledge for the next time.

Sooo, that's not how a PTSD diagnosis works. But it sounds like you just have some anxiety. Give it time, then try.

Sounds like it’s just nervousness and you’re having trouble relaxing, which is why it hurts. You’re clenching those muscles. I’d lay down and get comfortable and try it yourself (no boyfriend involved) and remind yourself to relax and take your time.
