Hyperemisis gravardum
Just diagnosed with this after days of vomiting and not being able to consume or hydrate. The only thing that will help you is professional medical treatment. This means pushing iv fluids and possibly taking medicine daily until symptoms are relieved. For some women this doesn’t go away for the entire pregnancy and others had lessening symptoms by week 20. This condition can also come and go during pregnancy. There is no way to prevent it or predict it. You must seek treatment or risk miscarrying, permanent bodily damage (organ failure), and even death. Women mean well when they suggest home remedies but the honest truth is no one or nothing can help you other than seeking medical treatment. Do not go more than two days of being dehydrated and not consuming liquids or food. This is not regular morning sickness. Also worth mentioning that this can be genetically passed down and more likely to happen again with another pregnancy. In some cases this condition won’t affect baby in any way. It’s most important to push fluids through an IV. If you try to drink or eat, you’ll more than likely immediately expel it. Water isn’t the best option either. Doctors and others suffering from this have suggested Pedialyte as the best alternative to rehydrating. Do not let your stomach stay empty. If you’re able try to consume at least two crackers before even getting out of bed. Protein before bed will help your glucose levels through the night. For me personally, yogurt and baked potatoes have been the majority of my meals through the day, which you should be having about five or six small meals instead of three regular meals. Ive also been prescribed 4mg zofran which I take every six hours. Sometimes it’s not enough or doesn’t last long but it can temporarily relieve nausea and vomiting enough for you to try a small meal or hydrate with the appropriate liquids. Of course always speak to a doctor before taking anything or trying something new that hasn’t been mentioned above. There’s more to this subject on treatment and recovery but that’s the basis of what I’ve learned while being bed ridden. This will not go away on its own and again can only really be treated with professional medical treatment. Hope to bring more awareness to this considering how serious it can affect expecting mothers. Do not risk your life or your babys. To those already diagnosed, you’re not alone and you’re stronger than you know. We’ll get through this too Mommas
