What causes this?

My 7 month old daughter has her ears pierced she got them pierced November 22 and last night her earring fell out. When I was going to put her earring back in I noticed her ear where the piercing goes is kinda hard like a rock is in there. What could this be? Her pediatrician office is closed.

Sounds like a keloid. It’s an overgrowth of tissue at the site of a healed injury

Probably just dead skin or an abscess. This has happened to me to, I would put some Neosporin on it and call the pediatrician when they open

Don't know the right term, but it is scar tissue. Some people are more prone to it. That is not dangerous now, but I would be cautious about piercings later, because that thing tends to grow in people, who have it. And like removing it makes it worse.

It’s normal. Her ear is healing. My ear still feels like that and I’ve had mine since I was 6 months old. For me it’s just the feeling of the hole.
