Do y’all think breast pumps are necessary? Or very useful?

What are y’all’s thoughts on breast pumps?

For me it is necessary.. my nips are weird and latching does not work. So I pump. I pumped for a year for my daughter and 16 months for my son. Pregnant and will be pumping again.

If you’re going to breast feed especially if you have kids they’re a game changer! Breast feeding is very demanding and can take a long time…. I definitely think to get one. You can loan them from your local hospital here in Australia which i did the last time because I wasn’t sure what was going to happen with my milk as I was induced so milk came in later

Why wouldn't they be useful? Some women don't/can't officially latch and using a pump makes it easier vs hand expressing all the time.

It depends on how you wish to feed your baby. I feed exclusively from the breast and haven't ever had need for one except when i returned to work for relieving engorgement until my supply adjusted. 
But if a woman wishes to offer a bottle as well as breast then they're great.
If a woman wants to only offer expressed milk in a bottle and never feed from the breast directly, they're great.
If a woman is increasing supply to feed a premature baby when they're able, then they're great.
If a woman is struggling with oversupply and needs relief to ensure she doesn't get engorged or get mastitis they're great.
If a woman wishes to get some more rest while their partner gives a bottle once in a while, they're great.
If a woman wants to donate milk to premature babies in need.
If a baby is having latching issues and not draining a breast successfully, a pump can maintain supply, baby weight, and mother comfort help while mother and baby receive support. 
When a pump is used correctly to HELP someone's breastfeeding journey then they're great. Sometimes they can do more harm than good, but sometimes they could be the reason woman reaches her breastfeeding goals. Because wether its from a bottle, a cup or directly from the breast, if a baby is fed their mothers milk, it is breastfeeding. Even if a nipple never even goes in their mouth.

Definitely useful. For a whole bunch of reasons. Even if you don’t plan to use it regularly, you never know if you’re going to need it for a short term stint (like if baby needs any NICU care), need to pump and use your milk for something other than feeding (like if you need medication or have a drink of alcohol and don’t/ can’t feed baby that milk), if you want to build up a stash for your freezer, get milk for a bath, ear infections etc… the list goes on. That being said You definitely don’t need to buy the most expensive pump in the world and usually insurance covers the cost

I think they are good to have but don’t always work for all women. I’ve tried two different breast-pumps and neither worked for me. I just could never get any output. I EBF both my girls. I will probably just get a manual pump this next go around. I don’t need to pump so to me it’s not useful.

Absolutely useful for me. I’m only latching baby but have major oversupply so I have to pump to avoid clogs and mastitis

Yes if you definitely plan to use it.. if you're not sure I would hold off on buying one (unless your insurance covers it?)

Only used mine when I went back to work at 6months. Not needed beforehand.
