Ectopic worry

I’ve been having spotting for over a week and abdominal pain, particularly on my left side, and abdominal tenderness. My first prenatal appointment isn’t until January 11th but I worry I might have an ectopic pregnancy. Why do they make these appointments so far out? If it is ectopic, it could rupture by then, but my cramps aren’t so severe to justify an er visit. They know I’m bleeding and cramping, but are just monitoring my hcg levels. I’m scared and not sure what to do.
