Should kids be around newborns?

I am debating if I should have kids(family) near my newborn. They can see the baby but from far away. This is my first pregnancy so idk if it would be taken as rude. When my sister had her daughters (before COVID) I met them at the hospital but after that she kept them in the room until they were older and I never went to her room unless she asked me too. I’m in my late 20s now so I have a lot to learn.

Are you letting other adults (the kids parents) close and hold baby? If so then it’s not going to make a difference if the kids stay away or come close.

Due to COVID I haven’t allowed adults or children that aren’t immediate family members around my daughter.  Her god parents met with and were wearing a fave mask. Everyone has a different stance on vaccines, so I avoid it all together. It is your choice and its not being rude. Its being safe.

As long as yoire nursing, baby will be okay.  We allow family around our baby. We got covid when baby was 1 week old *could have been from family or even from the hospital, who knows*
She nursed my covid antibodies and had zero symptoms!
Adults are carriers just as much as children. Ask them to wash hands, they not to kiss baby on face, and don't visit if any symptoms.

My kids are all over my niece and my SIL is super  good about it. She gets annoyed but she is like, “they’re kids you can’t tell them to stay away and actually expect them to stay away.” And she will redirect them or shoot me a look so I know when she’s had enough. I try to be on top of it too but she doesn’t want me to feel like I’m walking on eggshells so she says not to worry about it. IMO the kids are part of your family already so you’ll have to get used to it but putting some boundaries in place in the beginning when baby is little should be accepted. 
Like my SIL told my kids to come over to meet and hold her baby the week she was born, but after that would tell us if they needed some space that day or ask us to get together. I kinda kept it 100% on her terms in the beginning
