How old a baby needs before mittens is no longer needed?

Babe is 2 months old. I wonder where I can let him explore his hands and do I still need to put mittens on during sleep?

Ive never used mittens. Exploring is a huge part of development and ive never wanted to atop them from that. If scratching is the issue just keep their nails short

I never put mittens on my daughter, she hated them, I always made sure her nails were filed/cut so she didn’t scratch herself but it’ll happen

I never used them. Just made sure nails were clipped or filed. I don't think either of my kids would have left mittens on anyways had I tried.

My first didn't use them. My second loved scratching at her face and eyes every second she could. So we used them until she got a little more control. She would make herself scream even though we kept her nails as short as we could, they were just so thin and sharp

Depends on baby. My first would tear-up her poor face so she had them for a couple months. My second never touched her face so I didn't out them on her at all.
