For those of you with an only child: did they learn to walk from daycare?

My sons my only child, 18 months, not walking on his own still. Cruising and holding on and walking yes, but seems scared to walk alone
His  doc said hes fine, but that “he will ONLY learn to walk alone when he sees other kids doing it”.. he was really clear on the ONLY and that this is the only way kids learn. He even said “all single children learn by play dates and daycare” i think thats relatively true but.. ALLL?
For those of you with one child…. Did they only learn from play dates, siblings, daycare on how to walk independently? They didnt just do it on their own at their own time?
Im cautious putting him into daycare cuz covid is very bad where we are still. But i need him to socialize with kids and dont know other mom friends

I disagree. My daughter was my first and was walking at 9 months old with no other kids around 🤷‍♀️ I think the important thing to note is any time between 8.5 and 20 months is considered normal 👍🏻

My only child learned to walk on her own during lockdown. She only saw me and my hubby no kids no daycare.

My first learned to walk around 9 months, wasn’t really around other kids, second didn’t start almost 2 years, he was a little delayed, he rolled and scooted everywhere . I feel like all kids are different and just learn in their own time .

That’s obviously not the only way for them to learn, but it would probably help. I think you misunderstood the doctor. My daughter is my first baby and she didn’t walk until a little after 16 months after we basically forced her to figure it out. She’s almost 2.5 and still not talking much. She’s always behind, but eventually figures it out. I know if she had an older sibling or was in daycare she’d pick these things up much easier. I’ve had other moms tell me they struggled with the same things with their firstborns. How many adults do you know that never learned how to walk? 0, right? I know it gets hard to not compare our late bloomer toddlers to everyone else’s little geniuses on social media, but they will figure it out in their own time! Idk a single adult who never figured out how to crawl, walk, talk full sentences, use silverware, etc. When I started thinking of milestones my daughter was hitting late like “do I know a single adult who can’t do this?”, it lessened my stress by a ton.

My firstborn was born during the first wave of the pandemic in 2020. We basically quarantined his whole life up until he was around 10 months and at 10 and a half he started walking. My husband showed him how to, and he loves loves his daddy so it was a great encouragement (bending knees etc) by 11 months he was walking on his own and standing up on his own too. Now at 20 months old he can talk and indicate what he wants pretty clearly knows animals nose eyes hands etc.

Seeing other kids walk might help super cautious kids though. My son was cruising around the furniture and walls forever but would not let go of support. As soon as I started regularly taking him to the playground to see other kids walk and play, he started walking on his own at 15 month old!

My son was been a only child for 10 years that's till his brother was born a month ago. He learned everything from me and my mom.  No one in the family had kids his age. I didn't send him to daycare either. Can't trust too many people as round your kids now a days.

my son walked on his own while we were in deep deep quarantine for a year so no i don’t think that is accurate advice. he was 13m when he started taking steps
