Is it possible for a freshman to get a single dorm?

I have clinically diagnosed severe social anxiety and generalized anxiety disorder but I read that colleges don’t accept that as a medical reason for a single dorm because anxiety is a “universal human experience” 🙄 I am seriously extremely opposed to having a roommate, ESPECIALLY with covid, and the thought of being forced to sacrifice my privacy just to live with a complete stranger makes me panic. Is there any way I could get a single?

Reach out to your school’s disability resource center. Typically if you register your anxiety with them they can provide accommodations including exceptions for housing policies. 
Additionally, reach out to the housing department. Every school’s policies are different and you may already be allowed to room in a single. Generally though most schools do not have as many singles available making them harder to get especially depending on how your school does housing selection and singles are more expensive.

The best thing i can tell you is to talk to the housing department or coordinator that is in charge of the dorm you’re in. Explain to them your situation and they’ll see what they can do for you. Some of the housing coordinators are really nice and understanding.

Yes usually you can but you’ll have to pay extra. Here at EKU it’s almost a thousand extra so if you can afford it though, I do recommend it. It’s nice to have a room mate to talk to sometimes but you can arrange your stuff better without a roommate.

I had one as a freshman but you have to pay for it like buy the other side of the room. If you can get a doctors note saying you have this disorder it can help as well
