How common are miscarriages?

This is my first pregnancy, and I’m about 5.5 weeks along. My HCG is rising great according to my blood work, but I’m freaking out. I go in for my “8 week” ultrasound on the 18th, but I’m thinking of rescheduling sooner… I’ve been reading about all of these ovum and ectopic pregnancies on this app, so of course I Google it and miscarriages happen ONE OUT OF THREE pregnancies….?! Is that seriously true? 😞 I know you’re supposed to wait 12 weeks to share the news, but I have a big mouth and already told like everyone I’ve ever talked to. I know I shouldn’t be reading this stuff, but I’m so scared.

Yes they are that common but doctors offices typically don't like scheduling appts earlier than 8 weeks. There's really not much to see before then and can cause more stress and worry. I can be hard to get heartbeat, see fetal pole, yoke sac, etc when an ultrasound is too early. Which causes unnecessary stress on the mother. You'll be worrying about every little thing for the rest of your pregnancy so it's better to find ways to help your stress. Tea, yoga, meditate, pray or do whatever you gotta do because the stress doesn't go away.

1 in 4 is the correct statistic. Some women will never have one and others will have many. I had 2 healthy full term pregnancies, then had an early miscarriage, now 26 weeks pregnant with another so far healthy pregnancy. This is my last baby for sure so I, alone, fit the statistic perfectly.

Yes miscarriages are that common, it’s not something everyone shares publicly. A lot of my family doesn’t know I had one and didn’t for month and months, I felt like my body failed me as I have a healthy daughter and didn’t know why it was happening to me. Nothing to be scared about unless the doctors give you cause for concern or you start bleeding a filling a pad within an hour

Miscarriages happen to 1 in 4 pregnancies. So statistically 25%. Try not to worry and stress about this though, I know it’s hard. If you go in too early for an ultrasound you might not see as much as you’d like for the first ultrasound since things will be really tiny. You got this!! Congratulations! Miscarriages are that common. however there are usually signs something is wrong. Bleeding, cramping very badly like tears. It’s scary but they usually don’t want to see you earlier because they wanna make sure there’s a heartbeat and baby is growing normally

I believe it's 1 in 4 pregnancies end in a miscarriage. But try not to worry (I know easier said than done), especially if you're not having any concerning symptoms. And your doctor likely won't let you reschedule your ultrasound for an earlier than 8 weeks.
