Membrane Sweep?

I’m just curious, with those who get membranes sweeps instead of induction, what is the reason? Does your dr suggest it as a first option, do you request it, are you high risk, etc? I’m not looking to get one, I’m just very curious about it cause I’ve never even heard my OB mention it, she goes straight to planning a date for induction once you hit 41 weeks

Sometimes sweeps are classified as a more “gentle induction” because it’s a relatively quick process that can help jumpstart labour. 
Different providers have different opinions/feelings about them. 
They’re typically less intense than a full on induction.

I got it first. Two times at 36 weeks (didn’t help) as I’m not allowed hormones and c section was to be saved as absolute emergency due to anticoagulants and other issues.

Requested because i was a vbac candidate and was desperate to not make it to my scheduled csection date and my other provider wouldnt really consider a medical induction if i went past 40 weeks

I had 2 in the week before birth as I wanted to avoid induction and had GD. It was well controlled GD so induction was scheduled for 41 weeks. My waters broke at 40+1. I’d had sweeps at 39+5 and 39+1. So not super close to waters breaking. Wasn’t uncomfortable for me, actually better than a Pap smear.

My doctor offers it the last couple weeks at the regular checkups. It didn't do anything to speed things up for me.
