“No one wants to work anymore”

I’m so tired of this phrase. I’ve been looking for a job for almost 2 months (I currently have a job and don’t have any gaps in my resume). Dealing mostly with recruiters but applying on my own also. Usually I get a response asking for my availability and then I get ghosted. Or they set up a time for a phone interview and don’t call. I’ve had one actual interview and it took a week and a half for them to get back to the recruiter. They told her they “loved” me but went with someone else. Kept my resume though in case something else opened. Where are all these jobs apparently no one wants to work? Cuz I sure can’t find them! 😡 (I’m not looking for an actual answer. Just venting)

@Autumn I didn’t mean to sound like I’m dinging recruiters at all because I think they’re awesome! The ones I’ve spoken to have been fantastic about keeping me updated and informed. The issue I’m having is the jobs that use recruiters to find people but prefer to schedule interviews themselves. It’s the companies that aren’t getting back to me.

@Amy my resume is on indeed, LinkedIn, zip recruiter and I check all three of them as well as Glassdoor at least five times a day. Zip recruiter suggests English teaching positions or tutoring. My degree is in biology. It’s not from a lack of trying on my end…….

Seriously! It took 3 months when I moved to find just a subpar job and all I heard was “everywhere is hiring try harder” and I was like yeah fast food is hiring I’m good

My husband spent 6 weeks applying to every single job he came across. Legit over 60 jobs he applied to. Fast food. Dishwasher. Mechanic. Anything and everything. Got 3 call backs, 2 interviews, and finally 1 hired him. Maintenance job. But it's probably the best one that could have hired him. Just frustrating to apply to over 60 jobs and only get 3 call backs. Fast food wasn't even interested in calling. So. Not sure why people pull the "everyone is hiring, try harder, don't be so picky" bullshit.

I totally feel this. I applied to over 100 jobs before I landed the job I have. No lie.I am currently involved in recruitment and let me just say…it is chaos with the number of applicants we get. I had to screen 490 resumes for one posting not too long ago and it is very difficult to keep up with scheduling interviews, reaching out to candidates, and communicating with the hiring managers. I’m not saying all companies are experiencing this and that what you’re going through is acceptable, because it’s not 😩 But good luck! Keep going strong. You’ll land the right one!

Job hunting is the absolute worst. I ended up going to a temp agency 4 years ago just to get something. The company I temped with ended up hiring me on permanently a couple months later, and it’s now my lifetime career. In retrospect going to the temp agency was the best decision I could have made. I’ll never forget those months of endless applications and being ignored though. It’s so so annoying, humbling, and heartbreaking. I hope you find something soon, very much luck to you.

Replying to add… I have 2 degrees (one is a master’s), and it was still impossible for me to find a job without a dang temp agency. Craziness.

I don't know what generation you are.... but most of the things I've seen suggesting "no one wants to work any more" are published by boomers and gen x being gross and exhibiting inter-generational hate.Try not to let that kind of speak bother you. Finding work is hard enough without that kind of negativity.

My own personal conspiracy theory is employers aren't hiring but they seem like they are so their current employees think things will lighten up soon and they'll no longer be overworked. And I mean, most people are over qualified for minimum wage jobs (i was looking for a second job at the start of covid, and because I have a masters degree every.single.one. was rejected). They don't want to pay for your experience or your education (even if you're not asking for more pay), and you're not as easy to manipulate. But what do I know 🤷‍♀️

Out here by me you're lucky if you get $18-$20/hour with 5 years experience and a masters degree 😂 the job market is such a joke

I’ve actually heard that having a Masters degree right now is disqualifying people because companies don’t want to pay you for that. But yet they still want 7+ years of experience for $25 an hour lol

That really sucks. Where I live people will hire anyone off the street. Literally almost every business is hiring but there isn't anyone to apply because there is nowhere to live. And if there is a place to live, the wages around here won't even pay rent let alone other bills, food, gas, etc. Good luck!

Man I’m still struggling trying to find a job that’s actually hiring and not just saying they are and ghosting people.

I know the feeling. I have several degrees, including a Bachelors and working on an MBA and can't find a job to save my life. My SO on the other hand, has only a high school education and has no problem getting hired anywhere.

Yea everywhere I’ve applied won’t hire me because of my availability but I feel if they honestly needed the people they would work with me
