OPK detect pregnancy?

So I have been hearing around that you can take an opk and it can detect pregnancy like taking a pregnancy test itself. Is this even possible? And if so how does it work

OPKs can come back as positive when you are pregnant, but they can also cone back positive when you aren't pregnant. So its not an accurate way to determine it. Its really best to use an actual pregnancy test.

And I absolutely agree. I do my OPK to find the fertility window and I, of course, have my pregnancy tests for testing. I was just wondering how you can even tell you are “positive” for pregnancy with an OPK. like, do you just get a flashing smiley face all the way through? Lol it’s just confusing as to how they can tell it’s positive.

Opks can detect pregnancy in SOME women. Doesn't happen for all women and all pregnancies, so it's not at all a fail safe thing and a given.
The reason it can work is because LH and HCG are so structurally similar, the opks can detect hcg almost as a glitch if you like.
That said, it definitely doesn't work for all pregnancies and if you suspect you might be pregnant then take an actual pregnancy test.
For example with the pregnancy prior to my son (I sadly miscarried) I had a positive opk at the same time as I had a positive pregnancy test 9dpo. With my son (successful pregnancy) I had a positive first response early test at 8dpo and the opk was stark white.
The other thing to bear in mind is that your lh levels can surge just before your period,  so again another reason not to put much faith in a positive opk when in the two week wait, but certainly a reason to take a pregnancy test of you havent already as an opk won't show positive earlier than a pregnancy test will.
