Has anyone been able to convince a military member to get help with alcohol/substance abuse? If so, how??

My brother is a combat marine vet who suffers from PTSD, seizures, anxiety, depression, alcoholism, drug abuse, and is suicidal (OD attempt last fall). 
I’ve tried talking to him about getting help and he’s in complete denial of thinking he has a problem. I’m at a loss...I don’t want to give up but I also don’t know what else to do to support him.

Unfortunately it's ultimately up to them to seek help. You might ne able to reach out to him command and they might make it mandatory but that's very unlikely

Address it to his leadership (commander) and tell them about all of your concerns. They cannot ignore it.

It comes down to needing to be their choice. My husband finally saw what would happen if he didn’t and started taking steps. It helped tremendously to talk to one of his former squad mates who was also dealing with similar issues. There’s specific groups (think AA type) that are only for vets. Same for trauma type groups. It might be easier to get him to one of those since he’ll know the people there will understand him. I’d recommend getting resources like that together before approaching him again.
