Do I need a breast pump if I plan to breastfeed?

I know there’s a chance that I won’t be able to breastfeed but I’m wondering if I can hold off on buying the pump, storage bags, bottle sterilizer, etc. until I figure out if I need them? Or should you just have these things just in case?

Insurance normally covers a pump so you might as well get a free one from them in case you need it. If you never do you can always give it away or sell it.

I would for sure get a pump and bags ! You don’t need a bottle sterilizer. Boil water and place the bottles in the water for 5 minutes and bomb they are sterilized! If you are in the us and have insurance they have to cover a breast pump , you can get cheap bags at Walmart

Yes! Get one from insurance for at least to have. I’m glad I did. I planned on breastfeeding mostly but it got too stressful and I’m glad I had a pump to start consistently pumping with. Its since gone on the fritz but I was able to plan out buying a new and better one. Plus baby has issues latching or you get infection, etc a pump is a must

I got my breast pump free through insurance and it’ll come in handy in case you have to head out and leave baby with someone you can pump some milk and refrigerate it

You could get a manual one or even a haakaa just in case you're ever away from baby for a few hours. Otherwise, like others have said, insurance should cover a breast pump

Insurance should cover almost all of that. Either way I would for sure get it before you have baby! Mine ended up a week in the nicu and I had to pump to that first week before the feeding tube came out and I could breastfeed. I exclusively breastfed. Sometimes one of your breasts will get too full and you will want to pump or if baby doesn’t drink enough to relieve you. I pumped some after so my husband could bottlefeed occasionally. Also needed some stored for when I went to dr apts or lunch with friends to keep my Sanity. Also, I got clogged milk ducts a few times and you will want to try to pump while massaging to get them out.

I breastfed exclusively and I still do but I honestly make use my pump like three times. My baby won't take a bottle though so even if I did use it more often it wouldn't have been helpful
