Help me please.. should we move?

Anyone from Texas/ Louisiana in here?!

Sorry this is long as heck!

My husband has the opportunity to advance in his career making almost double what he’s making now. We currently live in Washington state and the price of living is OUTRAGEOUS.

My best friend her two kids would be coming with us. She has family there my husband has friends there from when he was in the military and i have one friend in Louisiana.

I’m looking into like Houston/ Beaumont/ Louisiana bordering area haha.

First question

Any good neighborhoods? We will commute for a good neighborhood up to 2 hours. I stay home and my husband can get a hotel during work week if it’s absolutely necessary.

He’s lived in Florida for all his life until getting stationed here and I’ve lived here for 17 years. So I’m nervous to say the least!

TIA for suggestions on neighborhoods

The rest is my pros and cons. If y’all want please tell me if you think moving would be a good idea. I’m 23 he’s 26. I got married at 19 and had my son at 20 and have never left my family. It’s scary but my family would help financially with the move if needed (i really don’t want to ask though)

The pros are definitely that we would be financially well off instead of struggling (literally could get 2, 4 bedroom houses down there for the price of one run down 2-3 bedroom house here)

If he was ever to get laid off we could live fine with just his VA benefits. Here i would have to choose which bills got paid (i just climbed out of that whole with Covid)

I can afford extra deposits there (credit is bad but getting significantly better)

My child would have a better life as we could afford better things. I feel like almost a failure here because we can’t even afford to get out of our crappy 2 bedroom apartment. And the renting requirements are ridiculous here. So far from what houses I’ve seen it would be way more fees-able down there.

I’d be able to get a house with a yard for my dogs. It’s not fair my German shepherd doesn’t have room to run.

Cons are my family is here and i don’t know if they would go with me. (Parents want to move too but not there)

I hate the heat but i mean I’m just a cry baby. Plus bugs (sooooo all the recommendations for that just in case) 😬😬

I’m diabetic and the idea of finding a whole health care system is scary for me.

I’m also currently ttc baby #2 so I’d have to find an OB as well.

Unfortunately also racism is a worry for me. I’ve never lived in the south or even been there in general but my husband is black and my son is mixed. We’ve had some racism here but very rarely. I understand it’s every where and we’ll deal with it but i also want my son to feel safe.

And last con is i would have to pay to end my lease early.
