Maternal hydronephrosis 26 weeks pregnant
Hi! I got diagnosed with mild hydronephrosis in both of my kidneys at 19 weeks. They said it is due to the baby growing and blocking the flow for my kidneys, causing them to swell. Since then I have had several episodes of severe flank pain, more recently with associated contractions, and 4 visits to the OB emergency room for IV fluids and kidney ultrasounds. The last visit’s ultrasound at 26 weeks said:
1. Moderate bilateral hydronephrosis
2. Findings suggesting chronic renal disease
Since I am pregnant, the urologist doesn’t want to do a stent or nephrostomy tube unless it is “severe” on the ultrasound or I am in too much pain. I’m at a loss, feeling very discouraged because when it flares up, it is extremely painful. And now I’m concerned it’s affecting my kidney function long term.
