Guidance from all ontario mom's and mom's to be
So need some guidance from you lovely women in ontario . I have just recently moved to Toronto from another country and shorty after getting here found out I am pregnant with my first child !! Now at 7wks.
I have no idea how the medical system here works . I got registered with a gp via health connect and seen her today but I am not 100% sure if she is the right person I need to assist me with my pregancy , I am sure she is a very efficent doctor for family medicine and day to day . I would fall In to high risk category due to my age (least that's what I understand from Dr google/web md )
Do I need an obgyn, if so how do I find one ? Does the family gp need to refer me .
Who should I go to for pap test , bloods etc ?!
I have no idea and know no one here .
I did have an appointment with doctor today but it was a mess and highlighted to me that there is just stuff that she expected me to know about how the system works here that I didn't !
I have to go for an emergency scan tomorrow as started bleeding but my gp referral to that left me very nervous (not well communicated let's say) 1 taxi ride , 3 phone calls to sort that all out . Just want to know baby if my baby is ok or if it wasent ment to be . I am trying to stay as clam as I can about it and accept what will be will be . (Let's be honest I will be a mess until I know one way or the other )
This whole incident has just brought it home how that:
A. Its My first pregancy and I like Jon snow know nothing !!
B. Other than my husband, how alone I am here in this at the moment.( normally would be fine, I have a great group of close friends just they aren't here)
C.How different the medical system is here compared to Europe - not saying its bad before anyone gets defensive its just I am blundering around and have no idea, see point A !
Any help advice or guidance would truly be appreciated . 🙏
Thank you for taking the time to read and wishing you all a wonderful day !
