When do babies enjoy books?

I have an 8 - almost 9 month old and trying to read books to her is pretty much still a joke. She just likes to hit and chew on it.

We have crinkly books, books with textures, black and white picture only books, books with flaps, books with reusable stickers, etc. Short little board books make great bedtime stories for the little ones. Bigger picture books are great for 2 and up. Reading readiness involves holding a book in the right way, flipping pages...it’s just a way for them to explore books. They aren’t going to sit and listen to a few books much if it at all.

We’ve been doing bed time story since day 1. My girl is 8 months old and gets giddy when her daddy grabs a book. 
Just keep at it. Don’t give up. Don’t expect them to sit in one spot the whole time. 
It’s still beneficial for you to read out loud while they roll around and play. 
Also, look up the books called Indestructibles by Amy Pixton. They are the perfect book for babies! They are tear proof, chew proof, and washable!

My son is 1.5. He eats all the books. 🤷‍♀️
But now lately he has been interested in picture books, he shows me a pic and asks what it is, or if I ask he finds a pic for me.
That doesn't stop him from chewing the book also...

We've done books at bedtime since birth and I try to read some throighout the day. Even if they're not actively interested, they hear all the words you're saying and that's so beneficial. I don't force them to sit down and listen if they don't want to but I'll still read. My oldest has loved books since like 3 months or so when he could interact with them more. My youngest really picked up interest at maybe 13 months. I almost thought he'd never be super into them but he loves them so much now! Just keep at it and read as much as you can.

my daughter is 1 and if she’s sleepy she’ll let me read a book to help her fall asleep but other than that i dont even try anymore
