Sex after birth

I’m 8 weeks post partum. My husband and I tried having sex when I got cleared after 6 weeks. It was so painful. We tried for a few minutes but I had to stop. We just tried again and it’s still so painful. It does ease up once we are doing it for a few minutes but it’s still painful and nowhere near normal or what it used to be. We use ALOT of lube also. Is this normal? Even after so many weeks to still be in pain. I did have an episiotomy but the pain is inside my vagina.
