How long is okay for newborn to wear hand mittens?

My baby is 6 weeks old, all her footies have the mittens that fold over on her hands. I do trim her nails but they still feel a bit sharp so I always fold the mittens part on her hands. But how long can this be okay to continue to do?

I got an electric file from Amazon, haaka brand. Makes it super easy to trim their nails. I really only kept the fold over mittens on for a week or 2 because I felt like she should be using her hands. Unfortunately her little arms are too short in long sleeve stuff so I have to roll the sleeves or they are basically mittens on her anyways. Little scratches will heal, it’s good for them to use their hands.

Second time mom here and my. Daughter scratches herself even with filed down nails! So I’ve still been using a bigger sized pair of mittens I have for her 💞 I’d rather that than her face be all scratched up

STM here! With our first, our doctor told us to only keep her mittens on for a week because keeping them on for too long restricts them being able to explore with their hands and work on grasping/opening and closing their hands as a skill. This time around with baby boy I don’t even think we kept them on him for a week. If we put him in an outfit that has fold over mittens we just don’t hold them over and leave his hands out. We try to keep his nails filed down pretty short and he hasn’t scratched himself since we stopped using them
