Can someone help

So Dr and myself agreed on iui. They gave me meds to bring my period down since it never came down. And also meds to make me ovulate more. On the third day of period I went to doctor to get ultrasound and blood work told me to come back and do the same thing. After that I had to call doctors to ask what is next step and receptionist told me she spoke to n.p and said I should have sex and wait two weeks to test if I’m pregnant. I’m confused cause is this how iui works?
