Anemia?

30w4d pregnant and got blood work done yesterday and glucose for gestational diabetes (I don’t have GD yay) but I got my results back just now and i have low red blood cells and high white blood cells which is odd cause i’ve never had this before. I was normal during my tests in march

You probably just need more iron, it should be an easy fix. I’m sure your dr will have a plan. I take an iron supplement every day. Yesterday dr mentioned they might want to give me iron infusions in my third trimester too

Labs are not that bad. Slight anemia which is normal in pregnancy. You can take iron, wbc tend to be a bit higher in pregnancy but nothing to worry about.

I just had similar results myself with low red blood count and high white blood cells . My Dr told me it showed slight anemia and I didn’t have to do anything . But I’m going to take iron for it . She also told me they were numbers she assumed to see being pregnant . I posted on here about it as well and was told it’s quite common in pregnancy .

It's normal because your blood volume increases but your hemoglobin and hematocrit volume does not increase with it. This leads to slight anemia in most pregnancies. Not usually a cause for concern, if your doctor said you don't need supplements for it then just switch to a prenatal that has iron in it.
