Lifestyle: A direct deposit question

I got a new job and they use ADP for pay. We get paid every week on Thursdays.

My first two checks were paper checks while they processed direct deposit. This week it should roll over to DD but I contacted my employer yesterday because our checking account was unfortunately compromised — employer said they may be able to cancel the DD but if so I wouldn’t receive my check til after the holiday. I’m completely fine with that but was just wondering I didn’t receive confirmation from them so has anyone had to cancel a direct deposit like that short notice and it actually worked? I’m worried— when the account was compromised it made us overdraw by 2000 so if that deposits it will be taken instantly.
