Nursing and (not) losing weight

Anyone else exclusively breastfed and not losing weight? With my first baby I was back to my regular size around 6 months, but he was on formula. With this baby I’m breastfeeding for the first time and I’ve plateaued- I have 10-15 lb left to lose and my weight has been the same for about a month now. Is my body trying to keep on extra weight? I’m slim to begin with, about 110-115.

Yep! This is NORMAL. The “if you breastfeed, the weight will fall off” comments are not accurate at all for the vast majority. I was bummed after my Feb 2020 girl - held onto 18lbs until a few months before weaning (17 months). Once again, my body is holding to a good 14lbs. I’m also petite - 100lbs pre-pregnancy, so it is a struggle for me to hold the weight. But, it’s a season. Our bodies hold weight because with nursing, our babies still need so much from us. 🤍

I always hang on to 5-7 lbs until I wean( after 1 year), but it falls right off! Keep up what you are doing!

My body likes to keep extra weight on when breastfeeding. With my first, I didn’t start losing until I stopped breastfeeding (around 10 months) and I imagine it will be the same with this baby. It took me 18 months to get back to my prepregnancy weight… only to get pregnant again 😂

I’m stuck with my last 10-15 also. Apparently it’s very common!

I think its just how your body handles the hormones. Some people wont loose all the weight until after they wean, some loose it right away and somw gradually do. You also have to remember that this is your second baby and it could take your body longer to loose the weight. I naturally sit at 145/150 and I am thin. I have lost all my baby weight with both my babies in a few weeks but then I tend to dip down too low too fast and I have to make sure I eat high calorie and fat to keep the weight on and once I get a couple months out it starts leveling out and I am not too small then. I can definately tell that I have lost all the weight but its going to be a little harder this time toning my stomach and not gaining weight there due to having 2 babies in just over 2 years.
