Self tan that actually works - UK

So I'm fair skinned & I want a bit of something for my legs without going to a sun bed, but I need some recommendations for a product that actually works with no lines or weird patches! I've just tried tanning water that you spray until saturated then use a mitt...great she says, how hard can it be...roughly 6 hours later....wth has happened to your legs 🤡😩 I don't know if I'm trying to be too careful to avoid patches round my knees etc so it actually does the exact opposite. There must be a pro who can help lol!
