Ear piercings?

Question

So i dont know if I’m gonna have a girl yet but i see lots of babies with earrings. What’s the pros and cons of having them done at a young age? My father-in-law got his daughters done when she was a baby and now she’s almost 6 she loses the earrings, but the holes are still there. I got mine done at 8 years old and even though I was terrified (Claire’s 🙄) I felt like a big girl.

I got both my girls ears done as soon as they were allowed. I think 4-5 months, can’t remember but positive is that it hurt for two seconds and they were done crying, forgot all about it and never pulled them out. Now they are 4 and 5 and absolutely love them. Doesn’t mess with them. Let’s me clean them and they want new ones for Christmas and things like that. I don’t regret them at all getting them so early. My mom got mine done that early and I still to this day love that she got mine done cause I HATE needles and piercings!

We won’t be getting our little girls done until she’s old enough to express that she wants them pierced and to take at least some responsibility for caring for them. I don’t believe in making changes to their body (that aren’t medically necessary) without their consent. Plus I kind of see getting your ears pierced as a right of passage kind of thing. It’s one of the first “big girl” decisions that they’re in charge of and take responsibility for.

I wouldn’t do it. So many people complain about the fact their parents did this, and as they grew and their ears grew, the holes moved and began to shift weirdly or expand making it impossible to wear earrings properly.
Wait until she is old enough to make this decision herself.

I had my daughters done at 6 months. She wears earrings when she wants and doesn’t when she doesn’t. Easier to clean when she was young and she’s happy that she did it then and can choose when or not to wear earrings.

My daughter wanted to get them done when she was around 7. Swore up and down she would clean them and didn’t need help. Welp she totally neglected them and they got gross and we had to take them out.
I would have preferred to do them as a baby so I could have cared for them better. She wouldn’t fight me on it like she did at 7.

Mine was pierced at 3months I pierced my baby ears at 4months and had to take them out at 10months,, it was stuck in her ear and scabbing and bleeding,, I took them out,,,now I'm going to wait until she is around 3-5

This is really a personal preference. We asked our dr and she recommended after most vaccines were done. We did them around 9 months no problem she is 3 now and loves picking out earrings. My sister waited until my niece asked and then she wouldn’t clean or let my sister clean them and they were sore and crusty with hair wrapped around them. I’d say the biggest con you will see is moms that will judge you for not letting your kid decide. I had mine for my 2nd bday and so did all my sisters and cousins. None of us grew up to be mad or had any problems.
